A custom aquarium is a long-term engineered system, and the cost of choosing the wrong builder shows up later as leaks, overheating and rework. These twelve questions separate a builder from a reseller or a general contractor. Ask them before you sign anything, whoever you are talking to.

Who actually builds it?

  1. Do you fabricate the tank yourselves, or outsource it? In-house fabrication means one team is responsible and quality is checked before the tank leaves the workshop. Ours is an 8,000 sq ft facility in Al Qusais.
  2. Can I see the workshop? A real facility is easy to show.

How is it engineered?

  1. How do you size filtration and life support? The answer should refer to volume, stocking and heat load, not a rule of thumb.
  2. Which material and thickness will you use, and why? Acrylic or glass, and the thickness for the water height. See acrylic vs glass aquariums.
  3. How will the tank stay cool in a UAE summer? Cooling and filtration sizing are where many projects fail. Our chiller guide explains why.

What happens after it is built?

  1. What warranty applies? Get it in writing, with what is and is not covered. Ours depends on the product and is stated in the quotation.
  2. Who is responsible if there is a leak? A single answer is a good sign.
  3. Do you offer maintenance, and what does a visit include? Ask for the checklist. Our own is described in aquarium maintenance cost in Dubai.
  4. Is there an emergency route? A stated call-out price and 24/7 availability are worth having.

Can they prove it?

  1. Can I see real projects? Ask for photos of installed tanks, not renders or stock images.
  2. Can I speak to a previous client or see a similar project?

Does the price make sense?

  1. What is included, and what is not? Compare scope line by line: material, filtration, cooling, installation, stocking, handover. For reference, our freshwater aquariums start from AED 15,000 and saltwater from AED 20,000, and the cost guide shows what moves the figure.

Red flags

  • You cannot find out who builds the tank.
  • No mention of cooling, in a country where it is essential.
  • No written warranty.
  • Only stock images, no real installations.
  • A price far below the others without an explanation of what has been left out.

We are happy to answer all twelve. See the custom aquarium service or book a consultation.

FAQ

How many aquarium companies should I compare?

Two or three is enough, provided each answers the same questions and gives a written scope and warranty.

Should I choose the cheapest quotation?

Compare what is included first. A low price that leaves out cooling, filtration or warranty usually costs more later.
