An entrance is the first thing anyone sees, and most are forgettable. The Gate Aquarium project changes that: a custom aquarium, 5 metres long and 2.7 metres high, built around the entrance itself so that the doorway becomes the centrepiece of the room.

Water Wonders Aquarium designed and constructed this bespoke aquarium with a distinctive blue framework, decorative coral elements and carefully integrated lighting, treating the aquarium as an architectural feature rather than a piece of furniture.

Design Considerations

Building Around a Doorway

An aquarium that frames an entrance must leave the door fully usable, so access, door swing and the surrounding structure have to be resolved with the architecture from the outset.

Holding 4,500 Litres

Roughly 4.5 tonnes of water, plus the tank, framework and décor, creates a heavy permanent load that has to be planned for. See our guide to aquarium weight and floor load.

A Slim, 0.8 m Depth

At 5 m long and 2.7 m high but only 0.8 m wide, the aquarium needed to feel generous without crowding the entrance.

Integrated Lighting

Lighting had to flatter the coral décor and the blue framework while keeping the entrance welcoming rather than dark.

A Balanced Aesthetic

Colour, décor and framework all needed to balance against the interior so the aquarium reads as part of the space.

Installation Logistics

Large aquariums need careful delivery planning, site access and positioning. Read how it works in our installation process guide.

Water Wonders Solution

At Water Wonders Aquarium, we specialise in designing and building bespoke aquariums that combine creativity, precision engineering and exceptional craftsmanship. For this project the answer was an aquarium that does more than hold water: it frames the entrance and gives the doorway a visual identity.

A distinctive blue framework gives the aquarium its structure and colour. Decorative coral elements on either side of the entrance create depth and movement, and carefully integrated lighting transforms the whole feature into a glowing centrepiece. Every element was designed and executed to achieve a balance between aesthetics, functionality and architectural harmony.

We see an aquarium as more than a display. It is an architectural feature that enhances the atmosphere, captures attention and brings a unique aquatic experience into any space – the same thinking behind our wall aquariums and commercial aquariums.

Why an Entrance Aquarium Works

First ImpressionsAn aquarium at the entrance gives every visitor an immediate focal point.
Architectural IntegrationFraming the doorway turns the aquarium into part of the building rather than an object placed in it.
Colour and LightA blue frame and integrated lighting create a distinctive glow that changes the feel of the space.
Calming AtmosphereThe movement of water and the colour of the tank give a lounge or reception area a relaxed character.
Space EfficiencyA slim 0.8 m depth delivers a large visual statement without using much floor area.
Bespoke by DesignEvery dimension, colour and detail is tailored to the space, so no two projects look alike.

Project Outcome

The Gate Aquarium transforms the entrance into a striking visual centerpiece. The blue framework, coral décor and integrated lighting work together as a single composition, and the aquarium sits comfortably within the surrounding interior rather than competing with it.

It shows what custom aquarium design can achieve when the tank is planned as part of the architecture from the start. If you are considering something similar, see our guides to aquarium costs in Dubai and acrylic versus glass aquariums.
