A water feature in a hotel, mall or development is public infrastructure as much as decoration. It runs long hours, it is used by people of all ages, and it must look good every morning. That changes how it is designed, built and maintained.

Designed for the public

Fountains and waterfalls in public areas have to consider slip risk from splash, safe depth, edges and the way children approach water. Barriers, finishes and water depth are decided with the building operator, not added afterwards.

Built to run all day

Commercial features run for many hours, in heat, and with a lot of dust. That calls for properly sized pumps, filtration that can be cleaned without draining the feature and a plant room that is easy to reach. Redundancy, for example duty and standby pumps, keeps the feature working when one part fails.

Water quality

Water in public spaces needs filtration and a treatment plan so it stays clear and safe. Where spray reaches people, use proper water management and follow the operator’s requirements. Ask us what fits your venue.

Sound and atmosphere

A feature in a lobby should add calm, not noise. Fall height, surface and flow set the sound, and a mock-up can help in large spaces.

Examples from our work

Our work includes the Adidas Liquid Billboard in Dubai, a swimmable acrylic structure, see the story behind it. Our portfolio also includes aquatic engineering for Expo 2020 Dubai, The Dubai Mall and Atlantis, The Palm.

Maintenance as a contract

For a public feature, scheduled service is part of the project. A routine for cleaning, filter care, equipment checks and water testing prevents the slow decline that visitors notice first. See water feature maintenance and our maintenance service.
