Aquarium Leak Repair in Dubai: Warning Signs and Resealing

Most aquarium leaks announce themselves long before the floor is wet. If you know the signs, you can act while the repair is small. If water is already coming out, treat it as an emergency.

Early warning signs

• A damp patch or staining under the stand or cabinet.
• Water level dropping faster than evaporation explains.
• Silicone that is peeling, bubbling or discoloured along a seam.
• Salt creep (white crust) around the edges of a marine tank.
• Swollen or stained cabinet panels.

If water is escaping now

1. Switch off pumps and heaters connected to the tank.
2. Switch off power to anything near the water.
3. Reduce the water level below the leak if you can do so safely.
4. Protect the fish: move them to a temporary container with aeration if the tank must be emptied.

Where leaks come from

Most leaks arise at the silicone seams, plumbing connections and bulkheads, not through the panels themselves. Age, movement and poor application are the usual causes. In a built-in tank, a leak behind the wall may go unnoticed for longer, which is why checking sealant and waterproofing is part of our Standard maintenance visit.

How reseal is done

A reseal means lowering or draining the water, removing the old silicone from the joint, cleaning and preparing the surface, applying new aquarium-safe silicone and giving it time to cure before the tank is refilled. Tanks cannot be patched over wet silicone, and shortcuts tend to fail again. After curing, the tank is refilled in stages and watched.

When repair is not enough

If a panel is cracked or has lost its bond over a large area, the right answer may be to replace the panel or rebuild the section. We assess that after inspecting the tank.
